1.) IMPORTANT INFORMATION
==========================
Due to the rearrangement of the EEPROM/NVRAM usage, the Elite 2864I will
perform a hardware reset after the first time upgrading to v2.99I from the
previous version. All informations stored in EEPROM/NVRAM such as MSNs and
other phone numbers using the AT&ZOx, AT&ZIx, AT&Zn and all user profiles
will be erased after the process.
==========================================================================
Please record the necessary information before you upgrade this firmware !
==========================================================================
In some cases that you might need to reload F/W versions between the
earlier versions and v2.99I for comparison purpose. You will then need
to do a hardware reset by using the command "ATS38.2=1HWR" manually since
the automatic EEPROM/NRAM check feature will work only at the first time
of this new firmware upgrade.

2.) General information on the Version v2.99I/v2.00N release
============================================================
The ZyXEL Elite 2864I is an external ISDN terminal adapter with
a built-in modem which is in some integrated electronic chips on
the printed circuit board (PCB).
This modem part can now be upgraded to the ITU V.90 analog modem
protocol, but currently as "APCM" (CLIENT) mode only. This means
that V.90 modem protocol can be used in MODEM DIAL-OUT only, but
not for MODEM DIAL-IN !
"v2.00N" is the same modem part firmware as in analog modem
"Elite 2864". It is the f/w for "Analog PulseCodeModulation" (APCM)
2.1) Upgrade procedure:
You can upgrade your ISDN terminal apapter to support ITU-T V.90
via firmware upgrade. Either use the ZyXEL ISDN Configuration
Manager (ZyICM v3.24) or any other terminal program and start the
firmware upgrade with the command "ATUPX", as described in the
Elite 2864I User's Manual.
A hardware upgrade is not necessary.
3.) V.90 Debugging and Diagnostics
==================================
This PUBLIC WIDE AREA BETATEST firmware version v2.99I/v2.00N still is not
fully tested with all the existing V.90 SERVER/HOST devices. Although the
ITU-T has officially released the V.90 Recommendation in September 1998,
there might still exist some incompatibilities between the ZyXEL Elite
2864 and Omni 288s modems as well as the ZyXEL Elite 2864I ISDN terminal
adapter with remote ISDN DPCM V.90 dial-in sites.
This PUBLIC WIDE AREA BETATEST was released to ask our customers for help
to check against the several existing V.90 sites which could not be
tested or emulated in ZyXEL's R&D departement in Taiwan.
If you want to report incompatibilities or problems concerning the V.90
modem connections, please use the following standard method to log some
useful debugging information for ZyXEL R&D and send your reports and
feedback to the special mailing list "V90-testers@zyxel.co.at".
You may subscribe to that mailing list if you send an eMail to
"majordomo@zyxel.co.at".

additional background information for the debugging
----------------------------------------------------
(1) CONNECT 3200L/38666/28800/ARQ/V.90/V42b
in this extended/debugging CONNECT message (is S52=96)
the "3200L" or "3200H" means the baud (symbol) rate of V.34 upstream.
"L" means "low carrier frequency"
"H" means "high carrier frequency"
V.34 protocol:
baud rate Carrier(L) Carrier(H)
2400 1600 (Hz) 1800 (Hz)
2743 1646 (Hz) 1829 (Hz)
2800 1680 (Hz) 1867 (Hz)
3000 1800 (Hz) 2000 (Hz)
3200 1829 (Hz) 1920 (Hz)
3429 1959 (Hz) 1959 (Hz)
(2) ATi12
Rx Carrier = 0 Hz
---> There is no carrier for V.90 downstream.
Because the V.90 technology is not a kind
of modulation tech. (V.32, V.34), it is a
coding tech.
Rx baud rate = 8000
---> baud rate of V.90 downstream, same as the
sampling rate of ISDN, E1 or T1 network.
(3) connected via PABX.
----> Please don't connect the analog modems Elite 2864 and Omni 288S to
an analog PABX with (A/D+D/A) converter. Otherwise, the V.90
connection is impossible. Usually, the connection performance is
much worse via PABX.
Case 1:
Digital Analog
ISP ------- C.O.(D/A)------ E2864 (O288S)
Case 2:
Digital Digital Analog
ISP ------- C.O.----------- Digital PABX(D/A)------- E2864 (O288S)
Case 3:
Digital Analog Analog
ISP ------- C.O.(D/A)------ Analog PABX (A/D+D/A)------ E2864 (O288S)
----> Case 1 and Case 2: V.90 connection is possible. And usually,
Case 2's performance is worse than Case 1.
----> Case 3: V.90 connection is impossible. (V.34 only)
The above debugging information is very helpful for ZyXEL's R&D developers
to solve a specific problem. Please log the debugging info and send them
to us as soon as possible. Thank You In Advance!.

while in other country specifications, they are carried by KeyPad IE.
2.9 Support for NNP specification in ITALY:
- For data call, when the dial number string is longer than 20 digits,
the first 20 dial digits will be sent by Enbloc sending while the
remaining by Overlap sending. The maximum nuber of the dial digits
is limited to 25.
- AT&ZIx= can store more than 25 digits (28 maximum)
- AT&ZOx= can store up to 25 digits
3. ISDN Bugs fixed in v2.99I:
=============================
3.1 EPA is refined for analyzing supplementary services.
3.2 For S-register in online help, modify s73.2, s73.3, s119.1, s119.2,
and fix the wrapped lines in s119, s120, and s121.
3.3 S56 default value depends on country.
3.4 Ringer frequency should automatically saved in NVRAM when country
code is set.
3.5 For Ireland (235):
(1) ring cadence is 0.2s-0.2s-0.2s-2.0s
(2) inband ringback tone.
3.6 For Thailand (227):
(1) ring frequency: 25 Hz
(2) ring cadence: 1s. on, 4s. off
(3) dial tone: 400 Hz modulation by 50 Hz
(4) dial tone period: continuous
(5) busy tone frequency: 400 Hz
(6) busy tone period: 0.5s. on, 0.5s. off
3.7 For Australia, always enable the tones (dial, busy, ring back...)
from the switch.
3.8 Responses of AT+FDCC=?, AT+CID?, AT+FCLASS=2;+FAE=1 are incorrect.
3.9 In beta firmware v2.11a a "+" in the +FLID string, e.g. AT+FLID=
"+49 123 456" or AT+FLID='+49 123 456' results in an ERROR.
3.10 If ATs79.6=1 are set, no analog-calls can be answered again- every
silents, no modem-connects be able!
3.11 Call the Elite in +FCLASS=Z mode(e.g. +FZF=3) when no terminal is
running(DTR low). Repeat 3 times and start a terminal. Some message
such as "RING", "NO CARRIER" will be shown on the terminal.
3.12 E2864, E2864I FAX call, setting s38.3=1, will get "CONNECT" before
"+FCON" message, this causes some AP fail, e.g. the unix
"mgetty+sendfax" package.
3.13 Fixed bug:
When ATS118.6=1 and no MSN is set, no more analog call could be
accepted.
3.14 Fixed bug:
The first UUS1 after reboot did not work.
3.15 Supplementary service requirement in Portugal.
3.16 Layer 3 message longer than 128 octets was not interpreted properly
3.17 Called Party Number should be unknown numbering plan in ITALY
3.18 Supress "NO CARRIER" message when callback
3.19 Accept command stream such as:
at&zoi=1111;&zom=2222;&zob=3333 <enter>
at&zpi=1111;&zpm=2222;&zpb=3333 <enter>
at&zi0=1111;&zi1=2222;&zi3=3333 <enter>
For backward compatibility, command streams not separated by
semicolon are also supported.
at&zoi=1111&zom=2222&zob=3333 <enter>
at&zpi=1111&zpm=2222&zpb=3333 <enter>
at&zi0=1111&zi1=2222&zi3=3333 <enter>
3.20 For Korea, AT&T11 will not compare the calling party number since the
information element is not available.
3.21 For Japan, enhance the 3 minutes restrictions on dialing out data
call. In Japan ISDN, for data call, the phone number destinated to
the same place cannot be dialled during 3 minutes.
3.22 set "&O1" as factory default
4. Fax/Modem related bugs fixed:
================================
4.1 The modem can only connect into 4800 bps with USR Sportster if FRN is
initiated in the first 10 seconds.
4.2 When "+FZF=1" is set, the modem will disconnect data call after a
fax call if no printer is connected.
4.3 The response of Rx Level of internal modem is incorrect.
4.4 The CONNECT message format is incorrect (CR,LF missed) when "+FAA=1",
"+FClass=2.0" is entered.
4.5 Fix incompatibility problem when calling to Rockwell modems.
4.6 The modem will not start FRN again in V.32 mode if it happened before.
4.7 Fix V.8 incompatibility problem with Motorola modems.
4.8 Fix incompatibility problem with NEC or Dynalink 56k modem when ZyXEL
modem is in the answer site.
4.9 Fix bug: The "Chars Received" of command ati1 is always 0.
4.10 AT commands
ATZ4S0M0N0=1 should be responded with ERROR
ATSr=n : when n > 255 should be responded with ERROR
'ATMOLO'='ATDL'
'ATO26'='ATD26'
AT#REV=? will not respond with ERROR
AT#CLS=? will not respond with ERROR
4.11 Fix Bug: Some data will be lost during file transfer in XON/XOFF
software flow control.
4.12 The modem will hang up or retrain continuously after a period of time
when connect to K.56flex server site.
4.13 Fix the incompatibility problem with V.90 protocol.
4.14 The connect speed is not correct for "AT+FDCC=1,2" or "AT+FDCC=1,4".
4.15 In fax mode, the modem should not report "CONNECT FAX" to DTE if
S38.3=1 since this will cause some software to assume a data call.
4.16 In standalone fax mode, the incoming call will detect "busy" during FAX
printing from DRAM.
4.17 The double quote ("string") is missed out in command response of +FTSI,
+FCSI commands.
4.18 The modem will send the first page three times and then drop it when
using Unix fax software "HylaFax".
5. Supplementary services operation guide:
==========================================
5.1 After you have subscribed the related supplementary service from
telephone company, please set the following command:
ATS120.7=1&w0z0
where s120.7 defines the meaning of knocking "Hook Flash" key:
S120.7=0: interpret "Hook Flash" as Feature Phone operation
Feature Phone functions are implemented inside the TA and
are operated by phone keys..
S120.7=1: interpret "Hook Flash" as Supplementary Service operation
Supplementary Service functions are implemented in Network
switches and are operated by phone keys.
Notice: Pluse dialing is not available when using
supplementary service functions (i.e. when s120.7=1 is set).
5.2 How to invoke these supplementary service: call waiting, call hold,
conference:
5.2.1 Incoming Call Waiting:
Command: ATS79.6=1
Operation:
-When you are talking with person B on phone and person C calls in,
you will hear a tutut tone alerting. You can knock the "Hook
Flash" key to hold link B and pick up link C.
-You can then switch between link B and C by knocking "Hook Flash".
-At the end of the conversation with B(C), if B(C) hangs up the
call you will hear busy tone as usual. You should hang up the
hook and wait for a Ring form C(B).
5.2.2 Three-Party Calling(Call Hold & Conference):
Commnad: no special setting need
Operation:
-Make an outgoing voice call to person B.
-After link B established, knocking "Hook Flash", you will hear
dial tone as usual.
-Make an outgoing voice call to person C.
-After link C established, knocking "Hook Flash" again will TRY
to establish a three way conference link among person B,C and You.
-If the 3PTY service is available, TA enters 3PTY mode and all you
three can talk together.
-In 3PTY mode, hang up the hook locally will disconnect all links.
-In 3PTY mode, after hanging up by remote B(C), a single link
remains between you and C(B).
-If the 3PTY service is unavailable, TA maintains the two links so
that you can switch between these two links as in 5.2.1
5.3 How to invoke the call forwarding service:
5.3.1 The following features are supported:
call forwarding unconditional (CFU),
call forwarding busy (CFB),

Release Note on Elite 2864I Version 2.12 July, 07, 1998
==============================================
1.The firmware's file names for various switch type are as follows:
FILENAME SWITCH TYPE
1.1 "E2864IE.212" ------ DSS1
2.Fixed the Bugs:
=================
When AT+FZF=0 set, the Fax printing feature did not work.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Release Note on Elite 2864I Version 2.11 January 15, 1998
==============================================
1.The firmware's file names for various switch type are as follows:
FILENAME SWITCH TYPE
1.1 "E2864IE.211" ------ DSS1
1.2 "E2864IK.211" ------ KOREA(KOREA only)
1.3 "E2864IG.211" ------ 1TR6 (GERMANY only)
1.4 note: no released version 2.11 for USA !
2.Fixed the Bugs:
=================
2.1 With country code 236 (Italy), when the calling side set ATB11&S1&M1
and answering side set ATB11&S1&M1S0=1, then the answering side will
reject this incoming call if calling side set also S80.6=0
(which is that the ISDN Low Layer Compatibility (LLC) is disabled).
2.2 In AT command state, when data terminal issue AT command with
460.8Kbps DTE rate, if string length greater than 16 characters
the E2864I will lost characters (seen mostly under WindowsNT 4.0
Remote Accsess Service (RAS) or under Windows95 Dial Up Network (DUN))
2.3 With country code 250 (Sweden), TA can't dial with in pulse command
(ATDP... responsed with ERROR)
2.4 Spelling error correction in the Quick Online Reference Guide.
2.5 ATDnnn command can't accept brackets "()" in the phone number string
nnn.
2.6 Set ATS88=128 will cause TA reset.
2.7 Global reception should default to be disabled (S120.2=1).
2.8 When global reception is enabled (S120.2=0), if there is an analog
global call coming, TA only sent one time "RING" message to DTE,
no matter if this incoming call should be answered or not.
2.9 With global reception enabled (S120.2=0), when there is an analog
global call coming, TA will send "RING" message to DTE. If this
incoming call is answered by another TA on the same S/T bus, TA
didn't send "NO CARRIER" anymore and it happened that the application
assumed that there is a call presented.
2.10 On B-channel with X.75 protocol, if the answering TA responses with
the "DISC" frame upon receipt of "XID" (V.42bis compression) request,
the calling ZyXEL TA should response with "UA" frame, stop the "XID"
procedure and re-establish the LAP-B link.
2.11 Set AT&D0 and lower DTR TA can't response to any AT command.
2.12 S89.4 doesn't work.
2.13 AT&T11 loop back test doesn't work.
2.14 Long distance outgoing modem call can't connect successfully.
2.15 ISDN supplementary services "Call Waiting,Hold,Retrieve" (S79.6=1)
with "Flash-7" on POTS port didn't work.
2.16 Set ATB11&M1&S1&WZ and dial out, if call fails to connect then no
more AT commands could be entered.
2.17 AT&F can't reset AT&Mn to AT&M0.
2.18 Set AT+FZF=4, sometimes TA hangs in PRP (printer) mode.
2.19 With SLIP, only first connection to ISP will be successful.
2.20 Set AT+FZF=0 and make an incoming fax call, call fails in handshaking
state.
2.21 for USA only: dial with ATDIx+y where x and y are two different
subscribers' phone numbers will show connect 128K but, in fact,
only one B channel connected. (X75, V120 only)
2.22 When both calling and called sides set AT*G2, the non-password
callback function will make calls between these two parties calling
back and forth. (Both side of TAs have to upgrade F/W to fix this
problem now !)
2.23 For SLIP, UART hardware flow control doesn't work properly.
2.24 E2864I setting country to JAPAN (country code 234) can't detect DTMF
dial digits on POTS ports. (Japan, Israel only)
2.25 If on the D-channel there is no "Progress Indication" information
element included in the "ALERTING" message, then the E2864I will
generate ringback tone internally and it won't be stopped again
after CONNECT. You could still hear that ringback tones while talking
to called party.
2.26 E2864I feature phone didn't work.
2.27 TA didn't ignore the "SETUP" message with a Call Reference (CR) value
that is using.
2.28 S register #5 doesn't work.
2.29 Callback failed duo to switch send DISCONNECT message faster than
callback SETUP message. (Now call back SETUP message will be sent out
S64 seconds later after DISCONNECT message is sent. Users can correct
this problem by setting proper value to S64. The default value is 5
seconds. When S64 equals 0, 5 seconds timer used.)
2.30 for ISDN Leased Line only: if user plugs out ISDN cable while in V.110
connection, then the TA responsed with two "NO CARRIER" and
sometimes showed garbage data.
2.31 for ISDN Leased Line only: while in connection mode, issue "+++" and
then "ath", the TA responsed with "OK" and then "NO CARRIER".
2.32 Compatibility problem with K56Flex modem.
2.33 Set AT&D1 for "DTR dialing", connecting modem call and disconnecting
with dropping DTR, E2864I will show twice the "NO CARRIER" and no
connection make.
2.34 Issue "ATC$" command to start the embedded protocol analyzer (EPA),
if "XID" frame sent by ELSA MicroLink TA was included, ZyXEL TA will
hang.
2.35 PPP "Term-Ack" is blocked by ZyXEL TA. Some application, e.g.
WindowsNT RAS callback (CBCP), will run into a problem.
2.36 Response to AT#REV? should be "ERROR" (fix for WinFax Pro)
2.37 When TA received "ATD12345;" should ignore the ending ';' (fix for
WinFax Pro)
2.38 Response to "AT#21#" is incorrect.
2.39 AT*C1~C3 should response with "ERROR".
2.40 Some people testing TA and RVS-COM Lite version 1.22 (or higher)
reported that sometimes there are problems when sending fax.
2.41 Let s0>=3, sometimes TA disconnects before beginning answering call.
2.42 Modem/FAX/VOICE call should not turn on "OH" LED.
2.43 Set AT+FZF=0,2,3, TA should ignore incoming data call.
2.44 While FAX is printing, the incoming data/FAX call will cause TA hang.
2.45 While connecting with X.75+V.42bis, if answering side ISDN line cord
is plugged out and plugged in before calling side disconnecting and
then plugged out again till time out, the calling TA will never
release B1 channel even though the calling side ISDN line cord is
plugged out.
3.Newly implemented features
============================
3.1 Ringer frequency:
Ringer frequency and cadence will automatically adapt to that
country's SPEC when country code is changed.
Note:
1. Only when country code is changed, then also the ringer
cadence is changed.
2. Ringer frequency can also be changed via ATS121 setting.
3. AT&F can't reload ringer frequency of country default; Ringer
frequency is changed only through the two methods mentioned
above.
4. Because ringer frequency is kept in active user's profile, user
should save ringer frequency to a proper profile after ringer
frequency is changed.
5. Only TA models equal to or newer than "C3" ISDN module and
"New Elite 2864I" (manufactured since September 1997) have
this function. For previous models, ringer frequency is not
changeable. Users could use "ATG1" command to make sure model
type.
3.2 AT&On default setting:
Default AT&On setting should automatically adapt to that country's
requirement when country code is changed. (Presently, besides country
code = 237 is default to AT&O1, all countries are default to AT&O0.)
Note:
1. AT&F or H/W reset will reload the default AT&On setting.
3.3 Keypad protocol for DSS1 version:
Presently, the following countries support this function:
250 Sweden
238 Taiwan
236 Italy
3.4 Set AT+FCLASS=Z, analog incoming call should be routed depending on
AT&Ln setting. Meanwhile, when user set AT+FCLASS=Z, AT&L1 should also
be set implicitly.
3.5 Release D channel Layer 2 Link:
When S121.4 is cleared (=0, the default setting), if all DTE port(s)
and PHONE device(s) are idle for more than 10 seconds, TA will
actively send "DISC" to release D channel layer 2 link if layer 2 link
is still engaged. (Note that this feature is available only on DSS1
version.)
3.6 Software and Hardware reset:
Add software and hardware reset AT commands.
ATSWR:
Software reset. After this AT command issued TA restarts
system.
ATHWR:
Hardware reset. After this AT command issued TA will clear
NVRAM, load factory default S parameters, and restart system.
Note:
These two AT commands are protected by key S38.2=1. You have
to set S38.2=1 before issuing these two AT commands.
3.7 Debug Mode:
Supporting Debug Mode.
Method to enter Debug Mode:
pressing D/V button for 10 seconds after power on. Don't be
confused by pressing D/V button during power on process.
Doing that may cause TA doing Hardware Reset. When B1/B2/AA
LEDs are beginning to flash release D/V button. Now TA
entering autobauding state. Connect TA to any asynchronous
terminal and key in "AT" command. If TA successfully detect
"AT", it will send "BELL" character three times and show
Debug Mode Help Menu.
What to use in Debug Mode:
In Debug Mode, there supports 6 AT commands:
ATRnnnnnn:
Read 256 bytes memory contents starting from "nnnnnn".
ATDNXfromaddr,lenght:
Download "length" bytes memory contents in X modem
starting from "fromaddr". The number is in
hexidecimal.
ATDNXP:
Download PPP DbgBuffer in X modem.
ATDNX$:
Download MonBuf (EPA buffer) in X modem.
ATSWR:
Software reset. System restarted.
ATHWR:
Hardware reset. Clear up contents of EEPROM, load
factory default and restart system.
ATWW[B]addr=hex value:
Write memory address "addr" with the specified hex
value. (Note that this is for internal use only.)
3.9 AT&V:
Add DTE rate, data length, number of stop bit, and parity information
for AT&V.
3.10 When AT+FCLASS=0/1/2/2.0/6 is set, AT&O0 is also set implicitly.
When AT+FCLASS=8/Z is set, AT&L1 is also set implicitly. After
AT+FCLASS command is set, user can issue AT&On or AT&Ln to overwrite
the implicitly set command.
3.11 ATC$1:
ATC$1 will stop logging and start to output the tracelog buffer
WITHOUT user's intervention.
4.Known bugs
============
4.1 Leased line:
4.1.1 While connecting with V.120+V.42bis, if answering side ISDN line cord
is plugged out, after both sides disconnected, sometimes answering
side TA reset.
4.1.2 When both sides initiate with calling side and select X.75 protocol,
connection will terminate in several seconds.
4.2 Sync Mode:
Can't connect with IBM AS/400.
4.3 CAPI:
Don't support T.30 (analog Fax group III)
Fax is possible only if the application supports the so called
"softfax" feature (Fax T.30 won't be done in CAPI but in application)
like RVS-Com v1.12 (and higher version)

=============================================================================
Release Note on Elite 2864I Version 2.09 July, 2, 1997
==============================================
1.The firmware's file names for various switch type are as follows:
FILENAME SWITCH TYPE
1.1 "E2864IE.209" ------ DSS1
1.2 "E2864IK.209" ------ KOREA(KOREA only)
1.3 "E2864IG.209" ------ 1TR6 (GERMANY only)
1.4 "E2864IA.209" ------ USA (USA only)
2.Fixed the Bugs:
=================
2.1 If flow control is disabled (AT&H0), using V.120 or X.75 to make
a connection and transferring ASCII file will cause the Elite's CTS
low and then reset.
2.2 For USA version, if AT&J3 is issued for bundle call but only dial one
phone number, can not get the connection.
2.3 For Japan only, the function that limits 3 times re-dialing during 3
minutes while remote is busy does not work correctly while using A>
repeat dialing.
2.4 The problem of receiving fax to DRAM: while setting "AT+FZF=3" (or 5),
the serial cable is disconnected and DTE speed with which previous
commands have been entered is 230.4 Kbps, an incoming fax call can not
handshake and route to DRAM.
2.5 While Issue 'ATS20=n' will get two 'OK'.
2.6 Sometimes the power-on reset can not successful for the Elite while
cyclically power on/off at least 200 times.
2.7 The Elite can not save AT&Z=aaaa+bbbb in NVRAM.
2.8 During the fax handshaking, offhook to make a phone call in the answer
site will cause the fax connection to fail.
2.9 The pause function of letter "," in the dialing string does not work
properly. So using the command "ATDxxxx,,,sss", xxxx = phone number
and sss = extension number, to dial to PSTN PBX can not route to
entension number.
2.10 Issue 'AT+FZQ=1' will set bit0 of S73 to 1 and cause printer function
not to work properly.
2.11 For Taiwan only, it's necessary to add 'Sending Complete' information
element in SETUP message for outgoing phone call.
2.12 The frame error on V.25bis protocol, this will cause the Elite can not
receive V25bis command when connected to some routers ( ex. 3Com ).
2.13 For Australia only, the ring cadence is not correct.
2.14 For synchronous mode connection, the RTS off-on tansition could
cause the Elite to reset.
2.15 For synchronous mode connection, after stress test, drop DTR
to disconnect the call could cause the Elite to reset.
2.16 For leased line function, one dial-up line / one leased line mode.
while one B channel is connected with data call via leased line, making
a phone call via dial-up line, dropping the call, unpluging the line
cord and then pluging, the data call never connect any more.
2.17 For leased line function, after data connectiion with X.75 is connected,
and then plug out/plug in line cord of the answer site, the connection
won't resume any more.
2.18 For leased line function, after data connection with V.120+Bundle, or
V.120+V42bis, or V.120+Bundle+V42bis and then plug out/plug in line
cord to disconnect V.120 ,no data can be transferred after connect
again.
2.19 If set "AT+FZF=4" and receive fax from PSTN, you will find that the fax
can be received in DRAM but sometimes can not be sent to priter port
and under this situation, the Elite will hang-up in PRP mode.
3.Newly implemented features
============================
3.1 Global reception:
while a inbound analog call can not tell to route to internal modem
or a/b adaptor, the Elite will alert both internal modem ( speaker )
and a/b adaptor. User can select to answer the modem call or offhook the
phone to receive phone call. The one off-hooks earlier, answers the call.
We call this function "global reception". The bit of register S120.2 is
defined to select this function ( multi-answering ) or using the original reception procedure ( ambiguity
resolution bit, set the priority by using AT&Ln n = 0,1 ).
S120.2 = 0 Multi-answering. (default)
1 ambiguity resolution

----------
4. Voice connection fails to send <dle><etx> at the end of the voice data
stream.
5. Issue "AT+FCLASS=8;+VIP" get "ERROR" back, you can not have more than two
voice commands on one line.
6. Using TRIO or ZFAX, call in the voice mail and the voice script will
start playing as soon as the modem answers, but if you pickup the phone
from the adapter the voice script will stop playing.
* Internal Modem/FAX
------------------
7. Setting the Elite to "AT+FZF=1", 4, or 5 with DTR off. The Elite will
answer the modem call ( it should drop the modem call ).
8. For modem call connection, if one issues "+++", "AT&V", and "ATO"
sequencially then no file can be transfered.
9. Sending a multiple page fax to the modem. If you pick up the receiver
after the fax starts printing or during fax negotiation, the modem will
not receive the fax properly.
10. When calling a V.FC modem almost all connects are without error
correction. Dropping the DTR, the modem will reboot.
11. Set "AT+FZF=3" or "AT+FCLASS=Z" and make a modem call. The modem can not
establish all connections.
12. Make a modem call and get "RINGING" message. Issuing "ATH" will create
the wrong string "<cr><lf><lf>OK<cr><lf>OK<cr><lf>".
* Security Functions
------------------
13. Security function on V.110 doesn't work.
14. Set S35.6=1, then issue "AT&W", there is no request for password.
15. Set *G5 ( call back function ). the Elite will change outgoing service's
setting after call back.
16. Enable security function, after call connection and need password in call
site, we can send data from the answer site.
17. CD is raised while the prompt for "PassWord:" is sent using security
function. CD should be raised only when the security checking procedure
is finished and ready to transfer data.
18. The stored call back number ( by "AT*HCn" ) can not be erased by doing
hardware reset.
19. For security functions there were two kinds of messages that could be
used at the Elite prompt. For example, "Password" and "PassWord",
"CORRECT" and "Correct".
Now "PassWord" and "Correct" are the only correct messages. (U-1496
backward compatibility !)
* Numerical Result Code
---------------------
20. Set DTE speed tp 38400 bps and dial "ATV0DMxxxx", you will receive the
numeric connect code without CR.
21. Set "ATS35.7=1V0", then "AT&T9" will give a numerical result code "1",
it should be "50".
* V.110
-----
22. After V.110 connection, the item "Receive Byte" of "ATI3" displays
incorrect value.
23. V.110 connection problem with NOKIA 2110i.
* PPP/SLIP
--------
24. For PPP/MP, improve file upload performance.
25. For PPP/MP, the Elite crashed durring stress tests.
26. "SLIP async to sync convertion" function did not work. Issue "ATB41" to
set outgoing service = SLIP conversion. This AT command also set the
Elite to use SLIP protocol to receive any data call.
* Loopback Test
-------------
27. For U model of USA version, issuing "AT&T8" or "AT&T10" causes the Elite
to loose the SPIDs.
28. After ISDN loopback test ( AT&T9, AT&T10 ) the Elite can not place an
outgoing call on the first try.
29. If after ISDN loopback test ( AT&T9, AT&T10 ), an ISDN call comes in
( ex. X.75, V.120 ), the Elite will indicate a PPP connection message
and soon after that "NO CARRIER".
* a/b adapter (POTS Port)
-----------------------
30. You can not assign AT&Zn=bxxxxx for a/b adapter into NVRAM at location n,
the letter 'b' can not be saved.
31. Unplug the ISDN line and dial ATDBxxxx, after "NO CARRIER" shows up, the
first AT command can not be issued. After one <cr> a new AT command can
be entered.
32. During handshaking for a fax call, if the a/b adapter is off-hook at the
answer site the connection will fail.
33. If you set AT&D1*Dn&Zn=bxxx, then drop DTR will make an outgoing phone
call. This function only works the first time while setting. Using drop
DTR again will get no action.
34. During an incoming call to the a/b adapter (ringing state), issuing
"ATH3" will not get any response.
35. Issue ATCM2 ( by ZyXEL's CAPI 1.1 profile A driver ), any incoming
call and a/b adapter hook state change causes the Elite to malfunction.
* AT Commands
-----------
36. Issuing "ATZI1" will get "ERROR", it should be "OK".
37. Elite generates responses with a bit parity error by using 7E1 format,
For example: AT ---> echos "AT" 7E1 correct!
---> responses "OK" 8N1 produces a parity error.
38. Setting MSN continuously ( ex. AT&ZI2=0&ZI6=1<cr> ) will give an incorrect
number.
39. For ISDN data connection:
Issuing "+++" and "ATI2O" can go back to data state but can not transfer
data.
Issuing "+++" and "ATI3O" will display wrong message and then AT command
will not work.
* Answering a Call
----------------
40. If you make a call to the Elite and the DTR is low, then wait for the
modem to ring a few times and hang up the call before it connects. After
that if you try to bring DTR high, the "buffered" RING messages will be
sent to the DTE.
* Miscellaneous
-------------
41. While receiving a Facility message with AOC_S, the Elite 2864I will send
a STATUS message.
42. Connection problem with ELSA MicroLink ISDN TL/V.34: When the ELSA has
V42bis handshaking activated ( which is default), the Elite disconnected
immedeately. Now it will connect without data compression.
Newly Implemented:
==================
* Sync Data
---------
1. AT&M1: asynchronous (=async) command, synchronous (=sync) mode.
At call site, issue "AT&M1" and "ATB11" ( V.110, sync 64K ), then
LLC with sync mode will be included in the SETUP message.
AT answer site, only issue "AT&M1", the Elite will check LLC of incoming
SETUP message and connect with sync data.
[Note]: V.25bis dialer for sync mode (AT&M3) will be released in the
next firmware version v2.05. In the mean time, a test special
version for V.25bis is available, please contact your
local authorized ZyXEL distributor !
* CAPI.DLL v1.1 Profile A
------------------------
2. A public betatest version of the CAPI 1.1 profile A driver for Windows
(CAPI.DLL, 16-bit) was released simultaneously with the F/W version 2.04.
The supported B-channel layer 3 protocols are:
X.75 Transparent,
T.70 (for T-Online),
ISO8208 (for European File Transfer, see Note *), and
Bit Transparent (for some G3 Fax applications, see Note *).
[Note *]: These protocols are in the alpha test state and are
still very buggy.
Two applications on the same PC can work concurrently, each using one of
the two B-channels.
[Note] We established a public mailing list on the Internet for testing
this CAPI.DLL. If you are interested, please subscribe to this
mailing list:
send an eMail to "majordomo@zyxel.co.at" and in the message body
write following two lines:
--------------------------------------------
subscribe capi-testers your.name@site.domain
end
--------------------------------------------
where "your.name@site.domain" is your full Internet eMail address.
If you had subscribed successfully you will receive a confirmation
of your subscription in an eMail within minutes. The "Welcome to
the capi-testers mailing list" eMail contains more background
information ....
3. EAZ to MSN mapping function for CAPI mode. Users can use AT&Zn=xxx/sss/,
n=0-9 (denotes the EAZ), xxx = phonenumber, sss = subaddresss to do
this mapping. For outgoing calls, the Elite receives "Source EAZ" (0-9)
from the application and uses the appriopriate phone number as
Calling_Party_Number/Subaddress. For incoming calls, the Elite checks
Called_Party_Number/Subaddress and uses the matched phone number
register's pointer (0-9) as "RequestedEAZ" to the applications.
* Charging Information (new in EuroISDN "DSS1" firmware)
------------------------------------------------------
4. AOC (Advice Of Charging) function: now you can use "ATCH?" to view the
charge information of the last call if the network had sent the message.
Please check with your ISDN Central Switching Office if any of the
following EuroISDN supplementary services - according to the ETSI
specifications - could be actived (because they are not supported in all
European countries !)
AOC-S/currency = Advice of Charging on call Setup time
AOC-D/currency AOC-D/units = Advice of Charging During a connection
AOC-E/currency AOC-E/units = Advice of Charging at the End of a call
5. Metering Pulse function ("ATS89.6=1") in case of the "AOC-D/units" ISDN
supplementary service: for Germany (16 kHz), Switzerland (12 kHz) and
Austria (12 kHz). Therefore it is necessary to set the country code to
Germany (237), Switzerland (225) and Austria (233). Please check the
country code with the command "AT#H" !
[Note] User can use the following command to change the country code:
ATS38=4 for enable changing country code function.
AT#Gxxx for enter country code xxx.
Major country code list:
Sweden 250 HongKong 242
Taiwan 238 Germany 237
Italy 236 Japan 234
Austria 233 Switzerland 225
* Japan Version
-------------
6. For Japanese ISDN, the Elite can detect the frame of V.110 57600 bps in
multi-auto mode.
7. For Japanese ISDN, link layer is always active (layer 2 in state 7).
* Internal Modem/FAX
------------------
8. If you set the FAX to DRAM/PRINTER feature enable ( ex. "AT+FZF=1"),
incoming analog calls will be routed to internal fax/modem ( "AT&L1") by
default.
9. Internal modem is version 1.13a. -> please read seperate release notes.
* Miscellaneous
-------------
10. Type 1 security function ("AT*G1").
11. Keypad signalling function on the a/b-adaptor, for Sweden only. It's
necessary to set the country code to Sweden (250).
12. For PPP/MP:
S87.2=0, CHAP/PAP for authentication conversion.
S87.2=1, PAP only for authentication conversion.
13. S79.7=0, respones "RELEASE COMPLETE" with cause "call rejected" while
receiving an incoming call after issuing "ATH1".
S79.7=1, respones "RELEASE COMPLETE" with cause "user busy" while
receiving an incoming call after issuing "ATH1".
14. For USA version, now user can enter Directory Number:
ATDNx=s, x=0,1, s=phonenumber.
Known bugs of version 2.04:
---------------------------
1. V.110/38k4-8n1 compatibility problem with "CITAM" ISDN-TA. The German
product "CITAM" uses another version of Siemens V.110 chip.
2. For "cFos channel bundle" (CCB, "AT&J3S100=1") connection, during file
transfer, pick up the phone and make a call then drop the phone call.
The B2 channel will be reactived, but it encounters many bad CRC and
file transfer will stop.
3. In the ESCAPE state ("+++") of a V.110 connection, issuing "ATI2" will
disconnect the connection, while "AT&V" will cause CTS low.
4. For U model of USA version, A/B adater offhook will generate garbage
during V.110 connection.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
July 2, 1996
Release Note on Elite 2864I Version 2.03
========================================
Fixed the Bugs:
---------------
1. ATCG test may fail for U-interface model.
2. AT$ can't work after showing a few pages. (A bug of Version 2.02)
3. S119.4 should work only for ATB10 but not ATB18.
4. S41.6 (Force S0>=2) does not work.
5. S103 does not work.
S103= Set number of RING to the a/b adapter
0 - The call sent to the a/b adapter will
keep ringing until the call is answered
or the calling side on-hook.
n>0 - When the RING count has reached the value
set (n), the a/b adapter analog call will
be re-routed to internal fax/modem
6. *G4 function has some problems when using internal modem.
7. V.120 performance enhancement.
8. If the internal modem is set to &K0 (none error control), the loop-back
test (AT&T8) will show garbage on the DTE in the beginning.
9. If the time difference between outgoing SETUP message and incoming
SETUP ACKN is exactly 7 (or 17 or 27) milli seconds, then the a/b-adapter
does not dedect DTMF dialtones - no CALLED PARTY information elements
will be sent !
10. Feature phone doesn't work (no dial tone after push button "0") since
version 2.01.
11. When dialing for the a/b adapter from DTE using ATDBxxxx command, once
the "In-Band-Info-Now-Available" message is received, the signal from
the B-channel should be indicated in the internal speaker.
12. S56 (for the hook-flash time setting) has some problem.
13. Ever since dial from the DTE for the a/b adapter using the "ATDBxxx"
command, put the handset on-hook will cause a "NO CARRIER" indication to
DTE. This is deprecated by most users.
14. The internal modem cannot connect with V.FC modems in EC mode. For none
error control mode, it will connect but the data transfered is incorrect.
15. When the a/b adapter is dialing out (overlap sending), if modem receives
a PROGRESS message with "in-band-info-avail,", the a/b adapter will stop
sending any number.
16. With version 2.02, one tenth of the 2864Is was crashed in 24 hours during
alternative connections of modem and isdn call.
17. Elite 2864I does not send the "user busy" cause in a "RELEASE COMPLETE"
message but in "RELEASE" message.
18. Elite 2864I send "STATUS" message with cause "message not compatible with
call state" after receiving "FACILITY" message.
19. AT+FLID="...." isn't stored in NVRAM.
20. AT&D3 doesn't load profile #0.
21. While dialing to some toll-free numbers, the feature phone functions of
the POTS port (a/b adapter) are not available and the call can not be
disconnected at all. In this case, the network doesn't send "CONNECT"
but only "PROGRESS" message.
22. AT&F does not reset FCLASS mode if it has been set to 8.
23. When the internal modem is in alerting state (sending RING indication to
the DTE), if the DTE issues "ATZ" (or "dropping DTR" or "AT&F"), the
modem will release the incoming call.
24. ATCRn where 128 > n > 3, will cause Elite to crash.
25. ATB04 does not imply ATCL125, ATB04 must be the same as ATB04CL125
(for German "T-Online Decoder" MODEM configuration).
26. ATB04 followed by AT&F does not set the 2864I to factory default (X.75).
27. ATB20 does not imply ATCL256, ATB20 must be the same as ATB20CL256
28. The second line of the AT&V6 display was
"Called ID (AT&ZOA=)...". It should be "Called ID (AT&ZOB=)..."
29. ATI3 "Cause:" -> verbose cause result string is missing !
This has once worked in the previous version v2.01.
30. AT&ZOx= can't be set to "UNASSIGNED" because of the inconsistancy:
AT&ZIn= (<cr> = empty string) is valid
AT&ZOx= (<cr> = empty string) is invalid (ERROR)
31. The factory default value of S56 should be 50. It was 0 after issuing
AT&F.
32. If the Elite is set to ATH1 then any data call should be rejected with
the RELEASE COMPLETE message with cause value "call rejected"
(it was "user busy")
33. When issuing "ATH" in Escape state (after "+++") should get "OK".
34. If there is an MSN assigned for fax/modem ( FCLASS = Z ) and an incoming
call matches with this MSN and while the DTR is off, then the fax will
not be received ( "user busy" ).
35. Issuing "ats0=250" will cause the modem to pickup in 1 ring.
36. If the DTR goes from ON to OFF during the alerting state, the ring count
of of S1 should be frozen until the DTR goes ON again.
37. The problem of parallel printing: issue "at+fclasss=z", "ats0=5" and DTR
is off, then a fax call come in. This will cause the "RING" and
"TO:xxxxxx" messages sent to the printer.
39. If the internal modem connects 300 bps with the "Austrian Personal Pager
System II" the response is "CONNECT CONNECT".
40. Connection problem (outgoing call) with Telekom Austria's "MidiStar"
and Siemens Hicom PBX. Now, 2864I doesnt't send STATUS message after
receiving CONNECT message with IE 00/4C. (which is the activated ISDN
supplementary service called "COLP")
41. Issuing ATH may get two "OK" responses in idle state.
42. DTR off will hang up the phone call of the analog port, which is placed
via the ATDBxxxx command.
43. For Japanese version, DTMF tone can not be detected.
44. Unable to transfer file using X.75+V42bis connection with length = 252.
45. Issuing "S23?" command causes 2864I to crash.
46. Hardware reset doesn't work.
47. After remote site hanging up during a phone call placed with ATDBxxxx,
issue ATO may get connect message.
48. Issuing AT&T8 (or AT&T1) then dropping this connection (press any key)
during handshaking causes LNK LED to turn off and the commands AT&T9 and
AT&T10 will never work again.
49. Issuing "A/" after AT*Hn and a wrong password will get some garbage
responses.
50. The AT&M1 should be responsed with "ERROR" because this feature is
not yet implemented.
51. Issuing AT+FCLASS=ZZ0 causes 2864I to crash.
52. Improved the reliability problem that 2864I can not run for 24 hours.
53. Issuing ATH3 to drop a/b adapter connection may get "OK" and "NO CARRIER"
it should only be responsed with "OK".
54. After some connections, issue ATA to accept an incoming call will get an
"ERROR" message.
55. When layer 1 is deactivated (cable unpluged), dial out by issuing
ATDxxxxxx may get no response. It should be responsed with "NO CARRIER".
56. Set &J3 in call site and &J0 in answer site to make a connection then
issue "ATH" to drop this call will get "BUSY". It should be responsed
with "NO CARRIER".
57. If the 2864I is configured as S0=1 (Auto answer) and &D0 (Ignore DTR
signal, assume DTR is always ON) and the RS232 cable is removed, an ISDN
connection session followed by a modem call will cause the 2864I to
reset due to a Run-Time-Error.
58. For Japanese version, the ringing signal of the Analog port is not
recognized by the YUPITREU YP-A72 answering machine.
59. *G4 function error for internal modem
60. The S89.4 doesn't work properly.
S89.4 = 0, Second incoming voice call will be routed to the a/b adapter
if &L1 is set and modem is running.(by default)
= 1, Second incoming voice will be rejected if &L1 is set.
61. CD LED lights up too early before B-channel link is fully established.
62. The "AT&Zn" command can not have ',' in the phone number string.
63. The 2864I can't auto-login into the Germa "T-Online Service" system.
(Due to a limitation of the COM port solution of the "T-Online Decoder"
software, the packet size should be as small as 125 octets (using
"ATB04CL125"), otherwise it's unable to browse the Internet via T-Online)
64. During the a/b adapter dialing out (overlap-sending), if the modem
receives a PROGRESS message with "In-Band-Info-Now-Available" indication,
the a/b adapter will stop sending any number.
New Implemented:
----------------
1. Added ATDSn+Sm and ATDnnnnn+mmmmm functions for placing a bundle call.
These commands are useful if the called party resides in the America
where seperate phone numbers must be used to connect the two B channels
of a Basic Rate ISDN line. When these commands are used, the modem will
assume a bundle call is invoked regardless the setting of "&Jn".
2. For some none end-to-end ISDN connections, e.g. using the a/b adapter to
dial to a POTS telephone, there will be no ring-back tone since the 2864I
doesn't receive any ALERTING message from the network. The modem now
generates artificial ring-back tone once it receives the PROGRESS
INDICATOR that indicates not end-to-end ISDN. One defect of this
implemention is that the remote site may eventually found to be busy
thus the ring-back tone may be followed by busy tone. But it's better
than nothing can be heard.
3. MultiAuto function for the protocol identification of the inbound calls.
If no MSN has been set (using the "&ZIn=xxx" command), the modem will
automatically decide the protocol of the incoming call. For analog calls,
we still rely on the setting of "&Ln" to determine whether it's the modem
or the a/b adapter to be routed. The "&ZIn=xxx" has modified as follows:
&ZI0=s Assign the phone number for X.75
&ZI1=s Assign the phone number for V.110
&ZI2=s Assign the phone number for V.120
&ZI3=s Assign the phone number for PPP async to sync HDLC
&ZI4=s Assign the phone number for ISDN data
(Multi-Auto answering, auto detect the protocols)
&ZI5=s Assign the phone number for PPP async to sync HDLC
&ZI6=s Assign the phone number for internal fax/modem
&ZI7=s Assign the phone number for the a/b adapter
If one MSN is multiple assigned to more than one protocols, the MultiAuto
function will also help to resolve the ambiguity.
4. More ragid layer 1 driver that has passed the Telecom Italia's
Comformance Test.
5. MP/PPP new function, please see PPP_MP.RTF (WORD file) or
PPP_MP.TXT (ASCII file)
6. Internal modem is version 1.12d. -> please read seperat release notes.
7. For Japanese ISDN, the Elite 2864I now supports V.110 57600 bps which is
a proprietary protocol of NEC.
8. For North America ISDN, the Elite 2864I now supports DOVBS (Data Over
Voice Bearer Service). To place an ISDN data call using the Voice Bearer
Service, please set S83.7=1.
Note:
It is recommended that the desired settings of the Elite 2864I be stored
in one of the user profiles (using the "&Wn" command) and the profile
be set as the power-on default settings (using the "Zn" command).
Although not very often, the modem may be reset due to unexpected
run-time-error after long term operation. Once this happens, the desired
settings will be resumed and the modem is ready to serve instantly.
9. In version 2.01, we implemented S119.4 for V.110 maximun user rate. This
was incorrect because S119.4 has been used to select result code type
since version 1.11. Thus a new flag must be devised to represent one of
the two selectors. We apologize for the mistake. The final definitions
are as follows:
S119.4 = 0, V.110 maximum user rate is 19.2kbps
= 1, V.110 maximum user rate is 38.4kbps (by default)
S87.4 = 0, result code 46 for X7 is 'CONNECT 112K/... '
result code 47 for X7 is 'CONNECT 128K/... '
= 1, result code 46 for X7 is 'CONNECT 112000/... '
result code 47 for X7 is 'CONNECT 128000/... '
10. If DES is enabled, bundle call won't be established. That means DES is of
higher priority than the channel bundling.
11. The country code of the internal modem will stick to 255. By doing so,
we made a detour to the problem that modem doesn't work after upgrading
from 2864 to 2864I in case the original country code is other than 255.
12. Plug and Play function for Microsoft Windows95
-> therefor you need the new modem description INF file (July 1996)
13. Added guarding timer for 'AT' autobaud detection.
Known bugs of version 2.03:
---------------------------
1. S38.0=1 & S44.3=1 don't work
2. V.110/38k4-8n1 compatibility problem with "CITAM" ISDN-TA. The German
product "CITAM" uses another version of Siemens V.110 chip.
3. Issue ATCM2 ( CAPI 1.1a driver ) or ATCM3, any incoming call and a/b
adapter hook state change causes the Elite's function abnormal.
4. Voice connection fails to send <dle><etx> at the end of the voice data
stream.

Release Note on Elite 2864I Version 2.02
----------------------------------------
this firmware has not been officially released as upgrade to endusers but
it has been shipped with new modems since mid of May 1996 !
The release notes are now merged to the release notes for version v2.03
listed above.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
March 14, 1996
Release Note on Elite 2864I Version 2.01 (aka "CeBIT'96 Release")
-----------------------------------------------------------------
(For DSS1 and 1TR6 only)
Fixed the Bugs:
--------------
1. Bad PPP performance: The FCS problem has been fixed and the
throughput is now in normal condition.
2. Self-test AT&T8 hang up by D/V key or DTR drop will cause B1 LED ON.
3. Two Elite 2864I on the same S-bus (point to multi-point) sometimes can
not answer the call due to the TEI assignment conflict.
4. TXD LED and RXD LED don't work in PPP mode.
5. After printing the receiving fax, the a/b adaptor doesn't work.
6. AT+FAA=0 or 1 will cause the "ERROR" response.
7. The 2864I ignores the incoming call while MSN matched but the specified
protocol is in use. Now it will response RELEASE message with cause
"BUSY" to network.
8. ATS18=1 causes the auto-bauding malfunctioning.
9. If remote site is busy, EPA information displays "No Carrier". It should
be "BUSY".
10. The problem of V.22bis/None that will hang the modem.
11. Improve the performance of the internal modem. (Now the internal modem is
version 1.12 ---> please see also the release notes for the analog modem
also: the filename is "E2864_RN.112").
12. ATQ2 does not work correctly.
13. If in-band signalling is unavailable, occasionally there is no ringback
tone while dialing to PSTN because no ALERTING message will be received.
Now the 2864I will monitor the CALL PROCEEDING message and generate the
ringback tone as indicated.
14. V.110 19200bps does't work.
15. Improve Japanese redial restriction function.
16. ATI4 and ATI5 report strange strings. The responses should be "ERROR".
17. Bundling problem for USA.
18. Improving U-module start-up timing.
19. Sporadically, 2864I indicates "RESET" after connect message with X.75
protocol, and hangs up.
20. S7 must be ignored when dialing with the command "ATDB...." for the a/b
adapter.
21. For 3.1k audio "BEARER CAP.", there is no (shall have) "PROGRESS IND." #3
(= 'origination is non-ISDN ).
22. T310 must be stopped after "CALL PROC." message with the
"PROGRESS IND." #1 (= 'call is not end-to-end ISDN').
23. Two 2864Is on the same S/T interface cannot dial to each other.
24. "ati2" doesn't work in the escape mode of an ISDN call. It will also
cause a later on "ath" or "ato" malfunctioning.
25. The problem of hardware reset for U-interface model.

so long as the phone is in OFF-HOOK state. User can hear the busy tone
( remote hang up ) provided in-band by the network.
2. S56 (in 10 ms unit), hook flash valid time for the a/b adapter. Please
have some tolerance for the flash time interval, e.g. if your the flash
specification of your telephone set is 70 ms, you should set S56 to be
9 (90 ms) for 20 ms tolerance.
3. S118.0=1, Disable dial-in call ( dial out only ).
4. Call back function for ISDN call:
AT*VC, View call-back table.

6. AT*G3, *G4, *G5 for both ISDN call and modem call.
7. Connect/disconnect problem for some PPP Servers. S124 (in second unit)
will be used for the idle time gauge. If the idle time exceeds this time,
a dummy PPP packet will be sent to keep the Server from disconnecting the
line. ATS124=0 will disable this function.
8. ACCM function for PPP. The 2864I will monitor the ACCM option selected
during the LCP negotiation and follow the result.

13. S119.5 = 0, enable normal MSN function, using &ZIn=.
S119.5 = 1, treat the number assigned by &ZIn=xx.. as subaddress and
matches with the called party subaddress for inbound call
routing.
14. S89.3 = 0, Keep connection whether there is DES or not.
S89.3 = 1. Disconnect the call if DES link cannot be established.
15. The voice mode function works now.
16. DES link status indication on the B1/B2 LED. Single blinking for
single-DES and triple blinking for triple-DES.

management procedure. We also fixed some bugs of signalling.
4. Fixed the bugs of ATZ.
5. After you download the Version 1.00 or 1.01, please first check the MSN
of each service by AT&ZI?. If the number is not correct or doesn't smell
very healthy, you should enter the correct number (AT&ZIn=xxxxxx) or
empty it (AT&ZIn=) and use AT&W to put the new assignments into the NVRAM.
This is very important for answering calls. The corresponding memory
space of the NVRAM is not properly initiated by the old versions of F/W.

June 21,1995
Release Note on Elite 2864I Version 1.00
1. The a/b adapter (analog telephone port) can accept both pulse dial as
well as DTMF tone dial. The only exception is that when the built-in
fax/modem is running, only pulse dial is possible.
2. The metering pulse function of the a/b adapter has been implemented
for 1TR6 (German national ISDN). Use
ATS102.6=1 to enable the metering pulse function;
ATS102.6=0 to disable the metering pulse function.
3. The outgoing Low-Layer-Compatibility information element can be
turned on or off as follows:
ATS115.4=0 Disable outgoing Low-Layer-Compatibility (default)
ATS115.4=1 Enable outgoing Low-Layer-Compatibility
4. The own number assignment command has been modified such that only
one number-subaddress pair can be assigned to each DTE channel. The
old command was
AT&ZOn=s , n=0,1
the new one is
AT&ZO=s
5. For DSS1 and North America ISDN, the Multiple Subscriber Number (MSN)
supplementary service provides the possibility for assigning multiple
ISDN numbers to a single ISDN BRI line, that allows a calling user to
select, via the public network, one or multiple distinct terminals
out of multiple choices. Since the Elite 2864I is a highly
integrated multi-function ISDN modem, it can be imagined as a black
box that contains multiple distinct terminals. Each of these
"internal terminals" can be assigned one ISDN number using the
following command:
AT&ZIn=s n=0-7
&ZI0 assign the MSN for X.75;
&ZI1 assign the MSN for V.110;
&ZI2 assign the MSN for V.120;
&ZI3 assign the MSN for PPP async to sync HDLC;
&ZI4 assign the MSN for SLIP to sync HDLC;
&ZI6 assign the MSN for internal fax/modem;
&ZI7 assign the MSN for the a/b adapter.
AT&ZI? can be used to display the MSN numbers assigned by the
AT&ZIn=s commands. The factory default for these numbers are
UNASSIGNED.
If an incoming SETUP message is offered with addressing information
(i.e. the appropriate part of the called party number), this address
will be compared with the MSN numbers assigned by the the AT&ZIn=s
commands. The call will be accepted using the specific protocol if
the assigned number of this protocol matches with the received called
party number.
Note : Two phone number strings are said to be matched if their least
significant "n" digit(s) are identical, where "n" is the number of
digit of the shorter string. Usually one digit is enough to
distinguish the various protocols.
6. Called-Party-Subaddress information of the incoming SETUP message is
not used by the Elite 2864I to select the protocols or services. The
Elite 2864I just indicates the subaddress (if any) to the DTE.
7. Each phone number of the destination BRI line can be called only once
at a time for the Northern Telecom ISDN. In order to use two B
channels for channel bundling, we must place two calls with different
phone numbers. Thus we implemented the command
ATDnumber_1+number_2
where number_1 and number_2 are two phone numbers of the same ISDN
BRI line.
8. The reset problem of the ATZ command has been fixed.
9. In case the ATC$ command (to view captured message of the EPA) has no
effect, please try to issue ATH first and then ATC$. We are working
on this bug.
10.The command ATI2 has been implemented, it will indicate the
disconnect reason of the last call.
11.For the Elite 2864 (the V.34 modem), there are four user profiles.
But for the Elite 2864I (the ISDN modem), because there are four DTE
channels in the Elite 2864I, each has its own configuration, the same
NVRAM space can only afford ONE user profile for each DTE channel.
Please use the on-line-help commands AT&$ and AT$ to see the
definitions of the commands that are pertinent to the user profile:
AT&Vn, AT&W, AT&F, ATZn
12.The V.120 data compression (V.42bis) of the Elite 2864I now follows
the "Annex C to Rec. V.120", which is a proposal from IBM that
defines the procedures of request and parameter negotiation of
V.42bis over V.120 by means of exchanging XID frames.
13.The lattest version of the Elite 2864I user's manual is Rev. 1.1.
14.The problem of class 2 fax has been fixed. Please try it under DTE
channel 0 (AT&ZO0, for internal fax/modem).

modem. Please test these functions in the DTE channel 0 (AT&O0).
We are porting the voice mode on the Elite 2864I. Don't issue any
voice command now !
2. The SPID (for North America ISDN) assigned via the AT command
ATSPIDn=xxxx is stored in the NVRAM. When power-on the Elite 2864I,
it will automatically handshake with the switch for TEI assignment.
3. The AT&Dn and AT&Sn commands have been implemented.
4. The AT&Vn command has been revised. Please use AT&$ command to view
the new definition of this command.
5. Remove the ISDN line before using AT&T1 (ISDN loopback test) or AT&T8
(ISDN loopback with self-test). We found that during these tests
there will be B-channel data leakage to the S/T interface. We are
trying to fix this problem.
6. We failed to include the dual TEI function in this version. Please
wait for the next version (0.03).

Release Note on Elite 2864I Version 0.01
1. Please press the D/V button and turn on the Elite 2864I to do a
hardware reset on the modem and have the modem load in the factory
default settings.
2. Please refer to the 2864I series ISDN modem user's manual for
explanation of the power on self-test.
3. Use ATI1 to check the ISDN modem's firmware version. Firmware version
0.xx is used for á-test. The formal commercial version will start
from version 1.00. ATI1 will also show the version of the internal
fax/modem, which has the same definition (and the same features) as
the firmware version of the Elite 2864 V.34 modem. For this á-version
(Ver 0.01) the internal fax/modem is not included. It will be added
into the Elite 2864I in the next version (Ver 0.02).
4. If the D-channel signaling protocol installed in your sample(s) does
not fit your ISDN switch you can upload the proper firmware into your
samples' flash EPROM. There are three files for this version:
E2864IE.001 .... European ISDN (DSS1)
E2864IG.001 .... German ISDN (1TR6)
E2864IA.001 .... North America ISDN (NI-1,AT&T 5ESS, and NT
DMS-100)
Please refer to Chapter 3 of the user's manual for procedures of
uploading the firmware.
5. There are four on-line help commands that you are recommended to try
first:
AT$, AT&$, AT*$, and ATS$
6. The Embedded Protocol Analyzer (EPA) can be a very powerful tool for
á-testers to record and report the test result. Please refer to
Chapter 12 of the user's manual.
7. We have just implemented the feature-phone functions to the a/b
adaptor. Please check if they work well.
8. The data encryption function is also new in this version. Please
refer to Chapter 14 of the user's manual for detailed information.
You can send short plain-text packets and use the EPA to capture the
B-channel's cipher-text to see the effect of the encryption. Both
manually entered key or automatic session key can be used.
9. The dual TEI capability required by the NT DMS-100 will be added in
the next version (Ver 0.02). Also we have not stored the SPID into
the NVRAM so you may have to key-in the SPID every time when you turn
on the Elite 2864I.
10.The channel bundling protocol now implemented is X.75 MLP (TELES
compatible). We are working on the cFOS Channel Bundling and hoping
that we can include it in version 0.03.
11.For the B-channle protocols, in addition to the V.120, V.110, and
X.75, we have added the PPP async-to-sync HDLC conversion as well as
the SLIP to sync HDLC conversion. These protocols are useful for the
LAN/Internet applications. Please refer to Chapter 8 of the user's
manual.
12.If you are running at 460.8K bps DTE speed, please make sure you are
using the 486DX 66MHz(or faster) machine and the Procom-Plus(or a
more efficient one) communication program. The Smartdrv function must
be enabled. A simple way to isolate the fault if you have too many
CRC error indications during file transfer is to use the V.42bis. Any
error occurred below the link layer will likely cause the ISDN modem
to blow out. If the ISDN modem is still alive and there are CRC
errors, the DTE interface or the Computer may have some speed
problem.
13.AT&T1 (ISDN loopback test) and AT&T8 (ISDN loopback with self-test)
can be used for quick evaluation of the B-channel protocols as well
as the hardware. Only V.110, V.120, and X.75 can be tested. Data
encryption, V.42bis, and/or channel bundling can be enabled in these
tests whenever applicable.
